Thornbury Golf Centre has completed the first two phases of a major £180,000 course enhancement project, focused on the refurbishment and construction of bunkers across five holes.
Over the past nine weeks, the club, owned and operated by BGL Golf, has invested significant time and resources into upgrading 14 bunkers, further elevating the playing experience for members and all those visiting the club.
Caroline Williams, general manager at Thornbury Golf Centre, said: “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to continually enhance the course and deliver the best possible experience for our members and guests at Thornbury. The new bunkers not only improve the playability and aesthetics of the course but also reinforce our reputation as a fantastic place to play. We are proud of the results and are excited to see golfers enjoying the new challenges.”
The project was delivered in partnership with Profusion Environmental, specialists in golf course construction, and Leeds Golf Design, who provided expert architectural guidance. Their combined expertise and attention to detail have ensured the highest standards of design and build quality throughout.

Each bunker has been carefully crafted to enhance both the strategic challenge and visual appeal of the course. From framing greens and redefining fairways to creating new shot-making opportunities, the improvements offer a refreshed and rewarding experience for golfers of all abilities.
In addition to the bunker improvements, the project included significant drainage updates on the first hole. These enhancements are designed to improve playability and overall course condition, particularly in the wetter months, helping to maintain excellent course standards year-round.
Guy Riggott, COO of BGL Golf, added: “At BGL, we are committed to delivering outstanding course conditions across all our venues, and Thornbury’s recent improvements are a testament to that ethos. The team, alongside our excellent partners, has delivered a top-quality project that will benefit the club and its players for years to come.”
