Cotswold golfing haven Tewkesbury Park has unveiled a spectacular two-year, £9 million facelift.
The 6,579 yard par 72 18-hole golf course – designed by Frank Pennink – has seen dozens of bunkers refurbished, and the course has been remodelled and reconditioned by designer Peter McEvoy and agronomist John Clarkin, who previously worked together on Powerscourt Golf Club in Ireland.
Over the last two years the club has invested in a full range of new Toro machinery to help to raise playing surfaces to the highest standard, with Paul Hathaway a recent arrival as Tewkesbury Park’s new head greenkeeper.
There’s also a new golf boutique shop, a six-hole academy course, two separate practice areas and a putting green. Other improvements include the refurbishment of the hotel, including the creation of new meetings and events facilities, which now host large events.
“Modern equipment has revolutionised the way elite golfers play the game, and the level of challenge at Tewkesbury Park for the better golfer was one thing which we needed to address,” said McEvoy. “However, it’s also true to say that more casual golfers or higher-handicappers aren’t really seeing much of a performance benefit from all this new technology. So another goal with the course works at Tewkesbury Park was to be sympathetic to the playing majority. I think that the average golfer will also find our new-look golf course extremely playable.”
