Two greenkeepers from Gleneagles, the Scottish hotel and sporting estate, were given the chance of a lifetime in the USA as part of the team that prepared the golf course for the closing Major of 2018: The PGA Championship.
Laura Campbell (27), a senior greenkeeper at the Perthshire estate, and Chris Richmond (20), an apprentice greenkeeper, travelled to Bellerive Country Club, St Louis, Missouri, on an educational experience that saw them work within the golf course maintenance team.
Scott Fenwick, director of agronomy at Gleneagles, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for Laura and Chris. Learnings gained from being part of a large championship team preparing and maintaining the golf course for a Major tournament is something very special.
“Their experience in the USA will undoubtedly support the development of their careers here at Gleneagles and add significant value to our team as we prepare to host the biggest women’s team event in golf, The Solheim Cup, next year.”
Gleneagles currently employs a 55-strong greenkeeping and gardening team, including seven apprentices, to manage its four golf courses.
