Sittingbourne & Milton Regis GC remodels bunkers

Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club in Kent has remodelled its bunkers, utilising Durabunker’s synthetic edge and liner products along with its design and construction services.
The club follows the likes of Littlehampton GC, Lilleybrook GC and Grand Ducal GC in Luxembourg, in commissioning Durabunker.
Paul Best, course manager at Sittingbourne GC, commented: “We have learnt so much from this first phase of works with Durabunker. They have involved us in every stage of the process and we have supplemented their team with our own staff to keep costs to a minimum. Through atrocious weather conditions, the Durabunkers have not ponded once, we have had no washout or contamination and the synthetic edges have not moved an inch. No raking, no repairing and no replacing sand, we just cannot believe the results!”
Steve Bootes, general manager added: “Durabunker built a picture of the problems that we were facing with our bunkers. They didn’t try to sell us product, they were more interested in creating a solution, along with design objectives, that aligned with our style of golf course and met our budgetary requirements. Although they did ultimately supply and install both bunker liner and synthetic bunker edging products, they recommended that we reduce the size of our bunkers quite considerably, built shallow revetted edges to offer clean definition and address our edge erosion issues, and coupled all of this with a liner that has performed remarkably through some extremely testing conditions. The bunkers not only look fantastic, the reduction in bunker maintenance has been staggering.”
Rhydian Lewis, director at Durabunker, concluded: “Sittingbourne decided to utilise us as a contractor and also use our design service, alongside our products. Other courses may choose to install Durabunker themselves. Ultimately, the decision is in their hands and we do all we can to facilitate their preferred approach.”
