Silloth on Solway Golf Club, regularly voted in the top 50 courses in the UK, and one of the world’s leading links golf courses, is currently working with Durabunker to re-build all of its bunkers using the company’s patented synthetic bunker face product.

Having started the multi-phase project in 2018, the club is roughly half way through its bunker renovation project with the feedback continuing to be overwhelmingly positive from members, visitors and the greenkeeping team itself.

Brian Story, course manager at Silloth commented: “The feedback has been remarkably positive from members and our team are reaping the rewards in terms of the reduction in maintenance work required. We are not having to re-build the Durabunkers every few years like we would our regular turf bunkers and the annual maintenance required is pretty negligible. The synthetic faces have elevated the bunkering on the golf course as all the Durabunkers look and play consistently whereas our other bunkers are in various stages of their natural life-cycle.”

The project is now entering its next phase with Brian and his team installing Durabunker ‘in-house’.

Brian continued: “Durabunker have been a pleasure to work with, very accommodating and have facilitated the approach we wanted to take to execute the project, with ease. The product has also withstood everything nature has thrown at it, the most recent being problematic rabbits causing issues. Durabunker has been a Godsend in that regards as well and have proved entirely animal proof!!”

Rhydian Lewis, co-inventor of all design patents associated with synthetic bunker edging, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Brian and his team, we sensed immediately that they would do a great job with the product and that’s exactly how it’s transpired.”
