The manager of a Surrey golf club that sent a greenkeeper to help with the preparations of this year’s Ryder Cup has said the experience has been ‘fantastic’.
Burhill Golf Club’s Fabian Maisonny worked closely with the greenkeeping team at Le Golf National in Paris and focused on keeping the fairways and closely-mown areas looking perfect for the world’s best golfers.
Enrolled in the R&A Greenkeeping Scholarship Programme, 31-year-old Maisonny qualified to be part of the Ryder Cup preparations through his work helping at the French Open the last two years, held at the same course.
Europe won a hotly contested match against the USA, but some might argue it was the venue that stole the show with a course set up for great matchplay with amazing grandstands and viewing areas.
Burhill Golf Club general manager, Dubravka Griffiths, said: “It’s fantastic that Fabian was able to play a part in the success of the Ryder Cup.
“I’m sure the experience of preparing a course for the world stage will help to further his career and help us enhance Burhill’s existing reputation for outstanding course standards and maintenance year-round.”
Burhill Golf Club has two championship golf courses and currently hosts the regional stage of the Open Qualifying series.
