Deeside Golf Club, Aberdeen nestling on the banks of the River Dee, is a traditional Scottish parkland golf course created in 1903, the 27 hole site including driving range and practice facilities is considered one of the best inland courses in north east Scotland.

Neil McLoughlin, course manager at Deeside Golf Club, contacted Capillary Bunkers in late 2019 about undertaking a trial of the Capillary Bunker liner in the hope they could help prevent a number of issues they had been struggling with for some time, primarily to maintain the shape, design and integrity of the bunkers after flood events, then to help prevent washouts, eliminate stone debris and maintain consistent moisture levels to improve playability and maintenance.

The club undertook trials in early 2020 which proved extremely successful, members and management were very happy with what they found after some extreme floods that took place, based on the feedback the club decided to move forward with a multi-year project to install Capillary Bunker liner in all bunkers.

Whilst planning the upgrades they decided to appoint experienced architect, James Edwards of EDI Golf to help enhance the club, guide them with design ideas, assess how best to manage and adapt areas of play when the course is flooded in the future by the excessive water from the River Dee. The first phase of works was completed in February this year with bunkers built and lined by the club’s own green-staff team led by course manager Neil McLoughlin and supplied and supported by Neil Thompson of Border Sports, the UK distributor for Capillary Bunkers.
