Cavendish Golf Club installs anti-slip protection

Cavendish Golf Club, dubbed ‘the course that inspired Augusta’, lies in the north of Derbyshire, designed by the famed course architect Dr Alistair MacKenzie and is the best untouched example of the great man’s work.
During recent course improvements, new wooden steps (sleepers) were installed on the first tee and therefore created a need to have anti-slip protection fitted.
The greens’ committee looked at various options using different materials but decided that GripClad plates would be the correct material to install.
Located in an area that can experience very inclement weather and above average rainfall, longevity of whatever the club chose to be fitted was of paramount importance.
One of the other main reasons why Cavendish selected the GripClad product was the fact that it could be quickly installed with no other preparation work necessary. Once received, the 1.8m x 500mm plates were installed within the hour! They have enhanced both the appearance of the new steps and give full anti slip protection for all those using them.
In early 2015 Cavendish had installed the product on the steps to four other tee boxes accessed by steps constructed using sleepers. The results have been excellent – despite a few harsh winters, the GripClad plates are the same as they were on day one; no signs of wear or deterioration and they continue to provide a great anti-slip system.
Over the years other products have been used to cover the steps on the course without long-term success, but now a real cost saving benefit has been found that will last for many years to come.
