A number of golf venues, from Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society to Royal Norwich, have installed Capillary Bunkers recently, as course managers benefit from a product with a 10-year performance guarantee, reports Border Sports Services.
Capillary Bunkers was first installed in 2010 in Scandinavia in a very tough climate with severe winter ground freezing conditions. The product was invented and developed by founder Martin Sternberg, CGCS, as a means of finally resolving all bunker problems in even the most severe golf course locations. Today, thousands of bunkers have been built or renovated with Capillary Bunkers all across the world, from Australia, Japan and Africa to the USA and Europe. Capillary Bunkers is available throughout the world, in every major golf market through local distributors.
Capillary Bunkers is a patented technology and has been successfully installed in the golf market since 2010. Our technology has proven itself in golf courses across five continents, facing all forms of weather and abuse, and has an impeccable track record. In fact, our bunkers virtually pay for themselves after three years – and continue to bring you savings over the long term. We are so confident in the performance of our bunkers, we offer the industry’s only 10-year performance guarantee.
Capillary Bunkers is the most durable product on the market and has a significantly longer lifespan and provide better, more consistent performance over time. The strength of Capillary Bunkers actually increases over time as it is exposed to moisture.
Despite the challenging conditions throughout 2021 it has been busy times for installations across the globe. This is the same in the UK, adding to the already completed courses, Sundridge Park GC has just finished phase two of renovations this winter, seeing 18 holes with all bunkers lined with Capillary Bunkers, as well as the commencement of a new 18 hole course in West London. Many more courses are scheduled to begin installations early this year as well as existing customers continuing with their yearly programmes. Completed projects include the Gleneagles resort (Kings and Queens courses), Loch Lomond GC, Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, Mortonhall GC, Royal Norwich and Porters Park GC to name a few.
Customer feedback is testament to the performance of Capillary Bunkers. Peter Todd, estates manager / director at Royal Norwich, said: “Lining all the new course bunkers with Capillary Bunkers formed part of our long term strategy to maximise the lifespan of the sand, reduce maintenance after heavy rainfall and improve bunker presentation and playability.”
He continued: “The ability to retain some sand moisture in drier conditions with Capillary Bunkers is an important feature as is its ability to speed up draining away water after intense rain.”
Neil Hogg, course manager at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, stated: “Since the installation, they have seen a massive improvement in the quality and consistency of the bunkers, feedback from members and visitors alike support this. Now that we have Capillary Bunkers, even during extreme rainfalls there are no wash outs or contamination, which allows us to get the course back in play much quicker.”
He also stated that “during high season, the time raking and maintaining bunkers has reduced over 50 percent and we save around 300 man hours per year only from not having to do repair work after heavy rainfalls.” When asked what life would be like without Capillary Bunkers installed, Neil Hogg simply stated “less sleep at night”.
Neil Thompson, director of Border Sports Services, Capillary Bunkers’ UK distributor, says “Since we started working with Capillary Bunkers we have seen the interest and reputation of the product grow year on year, we hear nothing but positive feedback from our customers and are proud to be associated with such a market leading system.”
