That’s the mantra at Turfco, the Minneapolis-based manufacturer of turf maintenance equipment for golf courses and sportsgrounds. In 2019, the family-owned company celebrated their centenary and today is overseen by third generation executives of the Kinkead family.
“We are proud of our heritage as a family-owned manufacturing company,” says Scott Kinkead, executive vice president of Turfco. “And we are delighted to be working in the turfcare industry, where people love what they do, and are enthusiastic going to work every day.
“We are a company that runs on great customer service, and we get our best ideas for new products from listening to what turf professionals tell us are their most pressing challenges, and from observing how they actually tackle their turf maintenance programmes.”
Turfco built the world’s first mechanised topdresser in 1961 and over 60 years later manufactures a range of broadcast topdressers, drop spreaders, blowers, overseeders and edgers.
“Our philosophy is to design and build equipment that increases productivity, saving work hours while reducing fuel costs when operating on fine turf surfaces. Our WideSpin topdressers reduce the number of passes and compaction to complete the job, while ensuring an even distribution of material in all conditions.
“Our Torrent 2 powerful all-purpose blower has been designed with significant input from golf course, grounds, and turf managers. Available in tow-behind or tractor-mounted PTO-driven formats it delivers unprecedented control over air speed, air direction, noise management and fuel consumption. This is a precision clean-up tool that can be used year-round to give golf courses or grounds a new level of polish and playability.
The CR-15 Large Area Topdresser & Material Handler revolutionises fairway and large area topdressing in the same way the WideSpin 1550 does for greens. It comes equipped with a digital Smart Controller that gives course managers the ability to calculate their preferred rates then lock in rates and widths into four savable pre-sets.
Operators can switch between presets on the fly for greater productivity. The edge-to-edge spread capability offers a consistent application that’s pinpoint accurate, eliminating waste. Miscalculating a spread by five feet off the fairways can add up to four hoppers loads or more. Areas needing heavier applications like landing zones can be handled with the push of a button.
Backed by a three-year warranty, the CR-15 doubles as an all-purpose construction and renovation machine. Quickly load other topdressers, turf vehicles and spreaders or move around the course. Use it on a daily basis for everything from renovating bunkers and filling ditches to fixing washout areas.
The TriWave 60 and TriWave 45 are a new breed of overseeder that can significantly increase the success of overseeding operations by up to 30 percent, especially on contoured ground.
The TriWave 60 has three, 460mm (18”) wide patented floating heads which move independently and blade spacing at 38mm (1½”); it doesn’t miss low spots, it won’t destroy high areas or unmarked sprinkler heads, offering unmatched consistency in seed density and depth.
The TriWave 45 is self-contained overseeder, which can be towed behind a utility vehicle, quad bike, bunker rake or tractor, and provides versatility and easiest operation of any overseeder on the market. Power comes from an 18.4 kW (25 hp) Briggs and
Stratton Vanguard petrol engine and is convenient and efficient to use.
