Don’t fear rain, make it your friend! With Capillary Concrete™ this is possible, in fact you can reduce the risk of washouts and improve playability and even get a long term return on your investment – yes your bunkers can make you money! Less maintenance and irrigation mean lower costs. And, long-lasting materials drive down total cost of ownership and give you a better return on your investment.
The key to better performing bunkers is moisture control. As soon as the sand on steep bunker faces starts to dry out, the risk of plugged ball lies and washouts increase significantly.
Capillary Concrete not only rapidly drains rain from storms, it moves moisture back up to the bunker sand during drier weather through special micropores and capillary action. The patented Capillary Concrete system stores and restores moisture to the sand faces to provide more ideal playing conditions.
This was an important consideration for the new Royal Norwich GC along with a few other factors.
“When we planned this project, we knew the soils in this area had small stones in it and the old Royal Norwich site always had a reputation for stones in its bunkers. In fact we could see the stones clearly as soon as we started construction, so it was obvious we would need a good liner for our bunkers,” said club director and estates manager Peter Todd.
A local contractor working alongside staff from the club installed the product in all 60 bunkers in just 13 days.
