Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society in Edinburgh, the fourth oldest club in the world, is currently underway with a major redevelopment programme to the historic course.

Renowned golf course architect Mackenzie & Ebert has been appointed to advise and guide the club on the changes which are to include a new signature hole, new greens’ surfaces, tees and an extensive bunker remodelling programme. The works will be phased in with completion due in 2019.

The remodelling of the bunkers aims to restore their appearance more in line with the shaping originally envisioned by Alastair MacKenzie when he worked with the club in the early 1920s, as well as repositioning some to help cater for the distances achieved by todays golfers.

To further enhance the playability, performance and maintenance of the new bunkering the club has selected to install Capillary Concrete® bunker liner to all bunkers, this is being supplied by the UK distributor, Border Sports Services, as a pre-mixed product that has only been available in the UK from this autumn but has already seen a vast amount of interest due to the increased speed with which installations can be carried out.

Delivered in ready-mix trucks to the patented Capillary Concrete® recipe, it is consistent and quick to install, a typical 6m³ load is enough for 100m², into bunkers in about one hour.

The project is well underway with nearly 1000m² of product already supplied, the installation is being carried out by the club’s own greenkeeping team, headed by Andrew Connor.

“There has been a great deal of interest recently in Capillary Concrete® and I’m sure the introduction of the option to have it delivered already mixed and ready to install will only increase that interest,” said Neil Thompson, director of Border Sports Services.
